Part enigma, part wine farm and part treasure chest, Babylonstoren is surely the jewel in the crown of the Cape wine lands.
This incredible estate embodies the meaning of truly partnering with nature and enhancing all of her wonderful gifts.
A trip to the Cape would not be complete without visiting Babylonstoren, which includes, but not limited to, the following;
An eight acre fruit and vegetable garden, which is the true heart of Babylonstoren. This botanical wonder was partly inspired by the gardens planted in the 1600's by the Dutch East India Company to provide passing ships with fresh fruit and vegetables. It was also inspired by the mythological hanging gardens of Babylon, thought to have been created in the 6th century BC, by Nebuchadnezzar.
Babylonstoren also boasts a world-class winery, a hotel, several residences, a selection of awe inspiring restaurants, a bakery, a spa and that is just the tip of the iceberg.
We are very happy to stock their olive oil, aged balsamic vinegar and rooibos tea, which are amazing South African products
The first kind of 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a blend of 5 Italian varietals, which has a fresh herby and faintly minty aroma, and feels like silk on the tongue. The finish on this oil is beautifully peppery, with characteristic bitterness, indicating high levels of antioxidants and polyphenols.
The second oil is one composed entirely of Frantoio olives, considered to be one Italy's noble varietals, and deeply connected to the Tuscan landscape. This green-gold oil has the pepper and bitterness associated with superb quality, but also a unique flavour profile, with notes of almond, green apple, dried herb and freshly cut grass.
Both of these oils are so versatile and can be used to lift and enhance any dish. Pour them over hunks of freshly baked baguette, drizzle over your favourite salad or fold into a seafood pasta dish. This heart-healthy gift from nature compliments any meal, and the only limitation is your imagination.
Our 3-year-old balsamic vinegar started as must from vines lovingly tended in Italy and bottled at Babylonstoren. Aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years in the traditional style of Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena. Complex and nuanced, this vinegar is rich in colour, with a delicate balance of sweet and sour.
Let it not be said that South Africa has not contributed to global tea culture. Fine rooibos tea can stand toe-to-toe with any of the great ones. Made from the leaves of dried Aspalathus linearis, a type of fynbos, this herbal tea is so full of health benefits it's hard to know where to start. It is caffeine-free, full of anti-oxidants and tannin-free. It has calming and soothing properties, a rich crimson-red hue and it tastes like South Africa.
